DC: I can't get online.Me: I'm sorry you're having a problem with that... (verify).... I see your modem is online, and I see a Linksys router. What lights do you have on the router?
DC: Router? What's that?
Me: It's a piece of equipment that allows 2 or more computers to get online, or for 1 or more computers to get online wirelessly. Do you have any computers wireless?
DC: No.
Me: Do you have more than one computer?
DC: No.
Me: Hmm...ok, well, this may be a linksys NIC then, lets go ahead and check your computer. Does the line from the modem go directly into your computer?
DC: Yes.
Me: You can follow the line from the modem directly into your big omputer box?
DC: Yes.
Me: OK, lets check your IP. (It's a router IP. We release and renew and get the router's IP.) OK, ma'am, we're getting an IP address that is usually associated with a router, are you sure you don't have a router?
DC: Well, let me go look at this other computer.
Me: I thought you said you only have one computer.
DC: Well, this one wasn't hooked up.
Me: ........
DC: Yeah, here's a router.
Me: Does it say Linksys on it?
DC: Yes.
Me: ........ Is the other computer online?
DC: No.
Me: Have you checked it?
DC: No.
Me: ................. Well ma'am, if you want to cable one computer directly to the modem, I'll be happy to help you, but I can't trouble shoot your network.
DC: Well, you're getting out of my league now, so I'll wait until my husband gets home......
......should have done that before you called in the first damn place......
