The Litter Box
New Orleans, part III
I don't want to sound like I'm not sympathetic to the fact that people are dying. People have been without food and water for 3 days. I find it absolutely horrifying and UNCONSCIONABLE that people are RAPING people in the midst of the chaos.
I'm absolutely sure no one wanted this. No one prayed for the levees to break. No one called out to God and requested to be stranded on an island with 23,000 people and no food, water, place to take a shit, etc.
However...
There was a mandatory evacuation in place. I cannot stress this enough. YOU CHOSE TO STAY AND TAKE YOUR CHANCES. Guess what??? Every action has a consequence. I wanna see the cameras on CNN talk to someone that says, "Yeah, I was a dumbass and ignored the warnings, and this is what I get." I wanna see just one.
And the whole race issue? NOT an issue. Until Jesse Jackson et al make it an issue.
Yes, the fact that FEMA and local authorities were woefully unprepared is apalling.
Yes, the fact that people aren't out of New Orleans altogether is unbeleiveable.
Yes, the fact that we can send massive relief efforts to Tsunami victims but can't rescue people in New Orleans is pathetic.
It IS a horrible situation.
But remember that YOU CHOSE TO STAY. Never - ever forget that.
"You rolls the dice and you takes your chances."
Craps.
